Pre-diabetes!?

I was declined an increase in my life insurance and referred to my GP.

I have been overweight for 20 years, In Feb 2005 my husband and I decided to increase our life insurance.
I was asked by the insurance company to undergo a health check. This check highlighted some serious concerns for me and I was declined the increase in my life insurance and referred to my GP.
My weight was sitting at 100.4 kg and I am only 162cm tall!!! After a serious of blood tests and a scan I was diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome - Pre-diabetes insulin resistance, Fatty liver and elevated cholesterol !! And I was only 39 years old!! My GP said that if I didn't lose some weight and get some exercise I would NOT see my grandchildren!! She said I was way too young to be having these health problems!!

She referred me to a dietitian, and said she would keep a very close eye on me. Well that was 20 months ago and I have lost 20kg to date!! My weight loss has been very slow and steady - the most healthy way to lose a large amount of weight. I joined a gym and got off my ever increasing butt and set to work healing my self.
I discovered SomeBody Weigh Better through my gym. SomeBody has been a life saver for me, it has given me the tools to find a balance between what I put in and what I put out. And all in my own home.

I still want/need to lose another 10kg to be a healthy weight for ME. I will continue to use Some Body as  a tool to help me lose these last kgs and will always go back to it if the scales say I am eating wrong before the kgs pile on the way they always did in the past.

To whom it may concern,

Kelly has asked me to write this letter to confirm the success she has had with improving her health due to a sensible weight loss and exercise program.
I first met Kelly in February 2005. At that time she weighed 97 kg, and had a BMI of 37.
Of more concern she has impaired glucose tolerance, abnormal liver function due to Fatty Liver, and dyslipidaemia. She had Metabolic syndrome. At that time I referred Kelly to a Diabetes Physician, and Dietician. She was commenced on Metformin, to improve her liver function as well as to reduce the risk of developing diabetes long term.
Kelly struggled initially, with diet alone, before joining a gym and has not looked back since that time. By December 2005 she had lost 12 kgs, and her liver function had almost returned to normal. In May 2006, all her blood tests were normal – liver function, lipids and fasting glucose, and she was able to stop the Metformin. In November 2006, her weight had dropped to 79 kg (18 kg over 20 months) and her BMI is now 29.7. Kelly has more energy, is fitter than she ever has been, and her family are also more active and enjoying a healthier lifestyle.

Yours sincerely
